Another online group of Local Music promoters (NClocalmusic.com) Is organizing a benefit show “featuring all North Carolina based female musicians in order to raise money for Interact. ( Http://www.interactofwake.org <http://www.interactofwake.org/> )

Here is what their recent press release said:

Interact is a private, non-profit, United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault. Interact fulfills this mission through the support of its volunteers and community.

We have scheduled the fundraiser/show for October 22nd 2010 at The Six String Cafe in Raleigh NC. There will be a cover charge at the door, raffles, C.D. sales, and direct donations all to raise money for Interact. They ask that you let your friends, co-workers, and families know about this event and hope that you all can attend.    Last year we raised close to $800.00 and we hope we can do more than double that this year.  If you have any questions contact information will be provided at the bottom of this page.

NC Local Music proudly supports and sponsors Interact for their  mission and the hard work the volunteers and workers put forth to provide the support and safety that women need.  We hope that you will share in our efforts to continue to raise awareness and to keep the cause rolling!

TREKKY RECORDS PRESENTS CHRISTMAS AT THE CRADLE 2009
Fourth annual holiday benefit show featuring Dexter Romweber, The Love Language, Des Ark and more!

Chapel Hill, NC – November 18, 2009 – Trekky Records is very excited to announce the return of Christmas at the Cradle, an event that started as a spontaneous holiday collaboration in 2006, but has grown into a cherished local tradition. The fourth annual local-music-holiday-variety-charity-celebration will be held at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC on December 15th and will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, as it has since its inception. Christmas at the Cradle has historically featured some of the finest artists North Carolina has to offer, including The Mountain Goats, Portastatic, Megafaun, Ivan Rosebud, Annuals, Hammer No More The Fingers, Bellafea and dozens more. This year is no exception, as Trekky Records has curated the strongest lineup in Christmas at the Cradle’s history. It is a testament to the amazing depth and quality of the North Carolina music scene that Christmas at the Cradle has never hosted the same band twice, and can still feature such excellent an important musicians in its fourth year. Each band playing will offer their interpretations of holiday music manifested as classic Christmas songs, original holiday tunes, nuanced odes to winter and unexpected bursts of yuletide joy.

Joining the bill, as they do every year, will be The Trekky Yuletide Orchestra, a 25+ member holiday super-group made up of members of the Trekky Records Collective. Formed in 2006 to record their album A New Old Fashioned Christmas, The Orchestra has opened and headlined every year of Christmas at the Cradle, sharing their electrified, symphonic brand of Christmas music with anyone who also loves the Spirit of the Season.

In addition to the music, there will be free snacks and drinks, a charity raffle with prizes from wonderful local businesses, classic holiday films, and a visit from the Bearded One himself, Santa Claus. The show will be hosted by another excellent local musician, Billy Sugarfix.

Trekky Yuletide Orchestra

The Beast will headline an album release party which will feature
performances by Carlitta Durand, Kooley High, and Freebass 808.

Durham, NC – On October 16th, 2009 hip-hop quartet The Beast will release Silence Fiction, their self-produced debut album. Capturing the group’s first two years of risk-taking and progressive songwriting, the album presents a fully-fledged introduction to one of the most innovative bands to emerge from North Carolina. From the lead single, “Translation,” which features 12-piece salsa supergroup Orquesta GarDel, to the gospel-infused spiritual discourse of “Interfaith Dialogue,” to the angular harmonies of “More to Me,” Silence Fiction re-defines the creative limits of underground hip-hop. Mixed at Osceola Studios and mastered at The Kitchen, Silence Fiction will be released as a collaboration between The Beast’s own label, Chakra Con Music, and Chapel Hill-based label, Robust Records.

To celebrate the release of the album, The Beast is headlining a performance at Duke Coffeehouse in Durham at 8pm on October 16th, 2009. The show centers on the theme of “silence fiction,” which can be defined as “to quiet falsehood,” or simply, “stop lying.” As such, The Beast has partnered with some of North Carolina’s most progressive artists, including Carlitta Durand, Kooley High, and Freebass 808, to bring an event to the Triangle that encourages social responsibility through conscious art. Sponsors of the event include Durham-based eco-fashion boutique Vert & Vogue and Robust Records. Silence Fiction will be available for purchase at the concert, as well as through The Beast’s website (both in CD and digital download formats), and at local music stores.

After the release party, The Beast plans to tour regionally in support of the album, including stops in Charlotte, New York, and New Jersey. The Beast’s next local appearance will be at the kickoff concert for the esteemed Troika Music Festival on November 5th. Citing a passion for community outreach, The Beast is also in the early stages of planning a symposium on the generational gap in the understanding of hip-hop music and culture.

Equally comfortable in the worlds of hip-hop and jazz, The Beast developed its distinct sound on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill. While pianist Eric Hirsh, drummer Stephen Coffman and bassist Pete Kimosh were earning their music degrees, emcee Pierce Freelon was developing the foundation for his intelligent lyricism in the Department of African American Studies. After graduating, the quartet joined forces in 2007 and quickly distinguished themselves as a pioneering force in the Triangle music scene through their high energy live show and exceptional compositions. Silence Fiction captures The Beast’s powerful synergy, with nine songs that build a bridge between hip-hop heads and jazz/soul connoisseurs.

Greensboro, N.C. – Local music media group, the dotmatrix project, is teaming up with Studio 4. This relationship will combine the recording and mixing expertise of DMP engineers, Dan Bayer & Don Ravon, with the mixing and mastering expertise of Studio 4, all at an exclusive discount to the featured musicians.

The DMP is a collective of musicians, photographers, videographers and sound engineers who put on and document live shows. Each month they rotate in original acts from Greensboro and surrounding counties in North Carolina.  To date, the media team numbers more than 40 all-volunteer participants.

“The partnership falls into our plan of establishing relationships with local businesses that share our vision of building community around local, original musicians,” says Sean Coon, the executive producer for the dotmatrix project.  “Until this partnership, the best live album we could produce was a high-quality, multi-track mix. The staff at Studio 4 brings 20 years of mastering expertise to the table with chief engineer Ceasar
Oviedo and, along with our engineers, a deeper, more fine-tuned final mix. We want our participating artists to be able to use their live album to book gigs or sell at shows, so the pressure is always on us to replicate the sound and vibe of a live show the best we can.”

Owner of Studio 4 Prez is excited about this effort, as it will increase the amount of local musician recording at his studio. “Our studio looks to be a thriving source of recording, mixing, and master for local and non local musicians alike,” Prez says.  Studio 4 is a professional music recording and film production studio based out of Greensboro.
